I've received many replies both on and off list and based on the assumption that there are other people around here trying to figure this out, I'll see if I can put what I got in some sort of order. 1. Inflating a liftbag by sticking a second stage in it and mashing the purge button is rarely the right answer. If the water is cold, there is a chance of icing and freeflow. If the goal is to put up a deco line, breathing gas is wasted. If neither of these is true, it may be a loss of an opportunity to practice for when one or both of them is true. 2. For a deco line or just getting the bag to stand up to get the rigging straight for a lift, using the exhaust of the second stage in use (either tilt the head to the side or look up) solves both concerns. 3. For lifting signifigant amounts of weight (as opposed to holding up a deco or marker line), either use a separate cylinder just for filling the bag or use the BC inflator. Either venting the BC into the bag or inflating and venting the BC simultaneously will do the job, although the second technique would seem to require quite a bit of practice. A procedure of venting and then reinflating the BC as the bag is released would be more controlled. 4. Using enclosed bags involves having another LP hose and costs unbreathed gas, so it would have to be a planned lift as opposed to an emergency deco line deployment. ***** There are people here much more comfortable with a freely ascending liftbag than I am. Based on what I saw, we could talk for a few days just on hooking a personal deco line to a wreck. ;) _____NetZero Free Internet Access and Email______ http://www.netzero.net/download/index.html -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
