I am sad to have to post that David Cooper, owner of Abucs Scuba in Brockville, died while diving the wreck of the J.B. King in the St. Lawrence Seaway. For those who knew Dave you will realize that this is a great loss, not only to his wife Helen , his two children and whole family but to all of us who knew him and dove and worked on the river. The dive industry has lost a key player. Dave was a professional, a gentleman but I think mostly he was an unselfish person who was always ready to lend a hand to any diver who needed help. Dave was one of the first to recognize and develope the wreck diving in this area. He played a major role in the locating, charting and marking those wrecks that are so popular today. He was involved in the developement of good safe protocols for these sites and in developing the futur of diving here. The exact cause and circumstance of his death are not yet clear and the usual unfounded rumours may abound, note a full investigation is under way. Official reports should be available shortly, in the mean time, we should refrain from fruitless and second hand speculation out of respect for the family. For those who may wish to pay their respects: Visitation; Aug. 13, 15:00 to 18:00, Irvine Funneral Home, 4 James Street East, Brockville Ontario, (613) 342-2828 Service; Aug. 14, 13:00, above location Sadly, Gary Kulisek -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
