Thanks everyone who replied to my altitude diving question. I received about 20 private emails on the subject on top of what was seen on the list. What I learned: 1) Getting to a higher elevation is actually more decompression than I thought 2) Calculating an equivalent depth or using altitude tables or software is more important than I thought 3) Same deco principles apply 4) Extreme fatigue before, during and after the dive is likely 5) Plan your route home carefully, as driving through the mountains to even greater elevations may bend you 6) dehydration is an even bigger concern than at sea level 7) know whether your computer/bt/guage is displaying dive depth, or an equivalent depth References suggested to me: 1) PADI advanced text book 2) US Navy Manual 3) Dciem literature -- I actually dug some of this up. I forgot that I had it burried away. 4) Buhlmann tables For anyone who is interested, the first of my planned dives is at a little lake named elbow lake near Jasper Alberta. I'm not sure of the altitude, but there will be about an hour's hike from my car with full gear uphill to get to the lake. I'll likely wait a day before diving it. I do not yet know what other lakes I'll be diving. I don't dive a computer, so I'll have to do my own depth conversion. Thanks again to those who provided info. I'll post a dive trip report on my return. Steve -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'. Send subscribe/unsubscribe requests to `techdiver-request@aquanaut.com'.
