James,
That depends a lot on the workload and your personal physiology.
..16 ata is considered the minimum for rest. If you are under sever
exertion .21 ata is low enough. If you your ancestors come from the
mountains of Tibet .10 might be enough. I have started dives with
low O2 %s without a travel mix by taking a breath (of air) at the surface
and putting the reg in my mouth. By the time I take a breath at
5-10 feet the PPO2 is high enough to breath without a problem. You
won't black-out from one or two breaths of 14% O2 at the surface but you
might get a little light headed.

I recommend you find a GOOD instructor for mix but you can find a lot of
information on Jim's web site that will help you determine if your
instructor is worth the money you are paying him and give you some
background before you get into a class.
Curious about this as I want to start using trimix. What is
the minimum pp02 for a working dive that will keep you conscious?
Bott, you boob, I agree with you 100% on this. I feel better
after the dive
if I keep my PPO2 bottom mix 1.2 max.

That ANDI calls nitrox "safeair" is too funny. I
know, lets add cyanide to
whiskey and call it "safebooze".
I think (I hope)by
conditions. Most of the
camp!!! PPO2s of 1.3ata are high enough
