WHY?  How many times in the 27 years that I have been diving do you think
something has not gone according to plan and I had to deal with it "on the
fly"? Without training like this you are not prepared for the unexpected.
The pool work any more is lazy and the "checkout dives" are easy rec dives
which don't provide "real dive" training. Ask any cave instructor or any
other high end instructor in they include this kind of training in their
curriculum. I just got lucky and learned to dive when it was included from
the beginning.

I would have cut his hoses with my dive knife.
