Subject: RE: Define Tech Diving
Hi Bob,

many years ago, wasn't it Mike Menduno who defined technical diving =20
originally as not having to dive deep on air? There was always a heated =20
debate whether cave diving was technial diving or a separate area of =20
discussion altogether=2E

Don't agree with this one=2E This is falling into the PADI CAvern =20
Speciality, single cylinder, snorkel optional territory=2E A cave is a =20
cave, getting light from the entrance doesn't make it any less of a cave =20
and the potential to kill is just as great=2E Just because the divemaster =20=
=20
doesn't let you die doesn't make it a safe way to dive=2E

Climbing also has the "technical" specialisation too=2E Technical climbing=20=
 =20
does refer to non-traditional technique which allows safe tackling of a =20
route not otherwise climbable, but it also refers to the site as well =20
i=2Ee=2E there are certain routes which are "technical" climbs=2E

For example, a 40m/130ft wreck may be diveable without getting any deco =20
on a single, but is it really the best, safest way to do it? The location =20=
=20
of the dive also plays a part too in the definition=2E

Cheers,

S
