There are very few incidents of documented whale/human encounters that I have been able to find. I did some pretty extensive searching a few years back on this subject after I had a diver get nudged by an Orca in Puget Sound on a night dive by a resident whale. From practical experience, it seems that most of the Orca whales could care less about divers in the water. The whale in question was a smaller male & possibly was just having a little fun. I would not cancel a dive just because Orca whales were in the general area. However, after the "whale bumping" incident, I would not jump in the water in front of one either. Last time I checked, I could not find a single whale that had read an Orca whale behavioral rules pamphlet. It could be that some of them just don't know what the rules are supposed to be. -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
