Subject: Tapered threads and Pillar-Valves

     List,
     
     I have a number of 25 + year old steel cylinders that have 
     tapered threads for the pillar valves.  Is there any regulation 
     or empirical evidence to suggest that these are in any way 
     unsafe?  Bearing in mind that the cylinders in question are in 
     test and that modern cylinders have parallel threads.
     Grateful for any info :-)
