OK Seeley, Milak, and other doc-wannabes, You can put the textbooks down now, and state what you really know. Clinically, ibuprofen and aspirin both inhibit cyclo-oxygenase in the prostaglandin pathway (I'm not looking at a book guys), both interfere with platelet aggregation, both prolong bleeding time (in my clinical experience, about the same), and both can cause stomach ulcers especially in excessive doses. As for diving, and the use of either aspirin or ibuprofen, I submit that moderation is the key. And 800 mg every 4 hours is pretty damn excessive. My guess is that most diving medicine physicians would frown upon this practice, but if you machismos need that much, or think you do, then maybe you should reconsider. Excuse me if I chuckle just a little, thinking about "Slobitus," Type 1 Decompression Sickness, which even George admits to having had. I wonder what long term effects you extreme divers are getting in your bones and in your central nervous systems, let alone the long-term effects you are getting from excess ibuprofen.
