PFO= patient foramen ovale.  This is an opening between the left and right 
atria of the heart that should have closed before birth.  This allows a right 
to left shunting of blood, thereby allowing bubbles to bypass the natural 
capillary filter of the lungs.  Then bubbles, that would normally be filtered 
by the lungs, pass into the arterial circulation, and you are a prime target 
for a type II hit.
