The reason one keeps the connection only finger tight, is so that one = can swap a leaking second stage underwater, after shutting off the gas = to that second stage. It is important to remember that the second stage = that you are removing was tuned to what-ever intermediate pressure was = set on its first stage. Thus, if one were to swap the second stage for = another, you had better hope that the second stage you are now = installing was set for that intermediate pressure or at least for a = higher intermediate pressure. Otherwise, be prepared for a lot of gas = leakage as the valve seat (since it's a down-stream design) will be = forced open by the increased intermediate pressure. Learning this on your own while underwater can ruin your day.
