Unfortunately, Black isn't a 'physician' in the sense he would like us
to believe. He is in fact an optometrist - a lasik jockey. His knowledge
of diving medicine is laughable. He may, however, be in a position
to supply some prescription lenses for your mask. He came on to this
list and posted (as if it was his own knowledge) some of the more
outdated information from 20 and 30 year old diving texts which have
been superceded by more contemporary experience and knowledge.

Take his 'adaptation to nitrogen narcosis' post for example. He
claimed that "Prolonged and frequent exposures give some degree of adaptation."

What the poor sook didn't know was that this steal from Lippmann
was a misinterpretation of Edmonds Lowry & Pennefather's observation
which referred exclusively to caisson workers and saturation divers
involved in saturation exposures over a number of WEEKS not hours,
and cannot in any way be extrapolated to recreational technical
diving.

But when this was pointed out to him, did he change his position?
Not at all. This guy is pathologically incapable of admitting
mistakes, as in the following deluded bullshit:

> Things like adaptation to nitrogen narcosis, or dysbaric
>osteonecrosis in old knee injuries (how's that knee George?), or

The clown prince also distinguished himself (or rather, soiled
himself) over on the rec. scuba list where, among other
stupidities he claimed, in the context of overhead dives,
it was perfectly acceptable to dive with a pony of hot mix
as a bail-out option. The example he recommended gave a pp02 of
1.9. On the techdiver list this bullshit is easily recognised.
Fortunately, wiser minds prevailed on the rec.scuba list
too, and the clown prince had his asshole handed to him over
there as well.

Since then, Black has distinguished himself by allowing
that chip on his shoulder against George and the WKPP to grow,
and to lead him into a pitiable exhibition of spite, petty
vengefulness, emotional instability and habitual lying in
his frantic attempts to shake the foundations of DIR. Take the
stuff about George's knee for example. This is despite the
fact that it was pointed out to him that George had knee-
surgery for an old football injury. And observe his repetitive
bullshit about Bobby McGuirre's death. This comes after the
real story of Bobby's death was presented to the list a
number of times. For an optometrist, Black is strangely blind
to the truth.

If this guy were my optometrist, I would fire him. He is
dishonest and untrustworthy, incapable of learning, and
harbours a grudge to the point where it affect his reason.

If he practiced in Australia, I would send some of his
more dangerous posts and his life-threatening 'advice' to
his medical registration board with a request they
investigate and restrain this eye doctor from dispensing
advice on diving medicine under the banner of 'M.D.'
since (as has been pointed out on these lists by real diving
physiologists and researchers) he has a poor understanding
of the concepts involved, and is incapable of or too lazy
to cross-reference and validate the texts he presents as
his own. And he's a bit of a fruit-loop to boot.

On the other hand, there are a couple of up-sides to his
transparent perfidy. He serves as a "stand-up, look-at-me,
I'm-a-dickhead" example of everything that is wrong with
our sport, thus he makes bullshit easier to spot.

And if anyone ever feels like fucking the list goat there
will be no shortage of volunteers to help hold Black down.
