Such facile comments reveals an ignorance of the facts and a ready inclination to shout "bigot" not to uncover bigotry but to use it as a ready all-purpose weapon against someone you simply want to personally attack. Unfortunately it is true that the only growing markets left to cigarette companies is overseas in Europe, but mostly in the 3rd world where the health message simply isn't winning many converts. Strictly speaking they are a couple of decades behind--or more--in their understanding of health concerns about cigarette smoking. I was on a liveaboard last year and nearly all of the Europeans smoked like chimneys, Eastern Europeans and Ukranians especially. None of the Americans smoked. I know it might be politically correct for you to present yourself as worldly and the rest of us just poor ignorant savages, but the fact is, Atlanta Brave, Rocker roomed with "minority" roommates before all of this without incident and the New York Times itself called his description of a NY subway unfortunate but accurate. The now infamous interview was the result of an SI reporter asking him questions for 8 hours before he got the quotes he was looking for, but then that isn't much reported. Rocker isn't an especially accomplished bigot, he's just in his early twenties, grew up in Macon, GA and makes too much money . . . but then understanding that distinction requires a willingness to suspend one's own hold on stereotypes and bigotry's and see things for how they really are: that Rocker is just your average, run-of-the-mill loudmouthed butthead . . . not all that much unlike yourself, really.
