Scott ----- Original Message -----=20 From: dave grey=20 To: scott ; karlo ; Maddog=20 Sent: Monday, May 01, 2000 7:38 AM Subject: The Benefits of Solo Diving I realize that solo diving is not DIR,but sometimes you gotta do what = you gotta do.Yesterday I am on my dock,complete with redundant picnic = tables for gear,setting up the Rig.Harness,backplate,monster canister = light,total of 40 lbs.of weighting,double 131's overfilled,reel,bag,all = the good shit.I keep my reel and bag on my rear crotch D-ring.I stand = the Rig up on the end of the table without having a heart attack,balance = it,turn into it and put my arms through the shoulder straps.Perfect = don.I then fiddle a bit with clipped off gear,check regs. and inflators = etc..etc...Lean forward,pick up the crotch strap ,slide the loop over = the waist strap and just like every other time I shrug the Rig up onto = my back. As I start to stand up and fasten the waist strap,unknown to = me,the fucking reel and bag have slid down between the 2 x 4's on the = top of the table and snagged.My shrug not only comes to an abrupt halt = but the fucking table slides forward a few inches and drops down between = the planks of the dock dragging me and 200+ lbs. of gear with it!! There = I am...the height of almost DIR technical diving...sitting on my ass in = my gear.... on a picnic table dropped through the deck of the dock and = no way to get up!!! After sitting for a few moments trying to find = someone other than me to blame,I undo the RIG ,lay it back on the = table,unhook the snagged reel and bag,go over to the rinse barrel,dunk = my head as by now I am sweating my bag off,go back to the table,lift it = up with everything on it and start all over again!! The only good thing about the whole occasion was none of you guys were = there to laugh your ass off!! There are some benefits to solo diving after all!
