Yeah, the 5ft is supposed to go only under the arm, not the canister. However, if you have a 7ft hose there is no reason why you can't use it on your single tank dives. Even if you leave the canister at home, you can still put the hose underneath the knife pocket. Some people tuck it in the waist belt but I prefer the knife pocket.
