Back to the travelling with lights issue: the gue master (jj) told me a long time ago that the black lights were nice "because you didn't have to carry them on" which insinuates that if its acrylic, you have to carry them on to protect them. I have had decent success travelling both to the east coast and to baja, but I am leaving for the yucatan on monday on some mexican airline, so we will see. PS: Alan, talk to Barry Miller, he can make you a black cannister with your parts for a "small" fee.
