Since several of you seem to have interest and have emailed me off the list, so I thought I would keep a record of the Masters Swim program that I have just started for reference of those that want to get into it. It has been going extremely well. I recently went past the six week mark and my 20th session. I have noticed a lot of positive changes since starting the program and feel my diving will benefit from it as well. When I first went I was extremely hesitant and wasnt sure if I could keep up with the rest of the swimmers. Like everything in life, the hardest things give us the greatest rewards. The first time I went to swim I felt like a complete dickhead walking around in speedos, I couldnt swim worth a crap, it was too early, and I was out of shape for it. It took awhile but I am now getting used to it. It took me 10 years to get out of shape so I cant expect to be a speed demon overnight. My coach tells me it take 6 weeks to get into swimming shape. The three things I have noticed the most are that my breathing rate is getting much better over time. I attribute this to the increased workload from swimming for 2 hours straight. I no longer have to take a breath every stroke. Now I taking one every two to four strokes. Plus the longer I swim the more efficient a breather I become. The second thing I have noticed is that I am losing body fat and toning up everywhere. My arms and legs are much stronger than by doing just weight training. I was 211 when I started. I weighed myself this morning and I am at 202. I have changed up my diet which has attributed to this weight loss as well. I am planning to have my bodyfat measured soon. Since the muscle weighs more than fat, I would guess that my bodyfat percentage is dropping even more than the scale would indicate. The third thing I have noticed is the increased energy level throughout my day. Getting up at four in the morning is not a problem anymore and I dont feel run down at night. I feel like I am just starting to get into shape. I go 3 times a week and I am about to start going 4 5 days a week until I get up to six days a week. It is a great way to start your morning. The first six weeks are killer but after that you start looking forward to hammering yourself in the pool on a day to day basis. The coaches are very helpful. My overall skills have improved enough that I can now finish the workout in a reasonable time. I still am slower than I would like to be but that will come with time. My swimming stroke is improving and I am learning how to move through the water efficiently. Plus being in the water on a day to day basis increases your comfort level in the water. You dont even slow down if you get a little water down the wrong pipe and learn to adapt each movement if one muscle gets tired or needs to move a little more efficiently. I think this daily water contact is invaluable for tech divers. After swimming straight two hour sets four times a week, a 30 minute deco will seem like a church cake walk. Probably the best benefit is that a lot of hot, in shape, women like to swim the Masters. Some of the best looking women I have ever seen swim in the morning. Plus they wear speedos, an added benefit. I cant emphasis enough how much Masters will improve your diving skills. It is a great and inexpensive way to become a better diver. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Send online invitations with Yahoo!
