Bingo.

I work another job so I can afford to work at the dive shop.

You couldn't *give* me an OW instructor shingle.

I have taught 30 or so people to dive. When I started, that's how you
learned. You found someone who knew, and you begged them to show you.

Gear *manufacturers*, and the PADI mentality have taken scuba training and
diving to an all time low. Low prices for OW education in a life threatening
endeavor, high prices for bullshit gear. People don't want a quality
education. they want to spend $99, and get it over with in a weekend.

Then, when you first hear of DIR, you automatically reject it.

Its the "King and his new clothes."

DIR is the kid standing there, saying, "Hey, King, your dicks hangin out."

Recreational, and technical it seems, training is a *market* defined and
driven *industry*.

The only reason the Bar Association isn't into it more, is because they
already are.

The needed change is happening, slowly, and at great *personal* expense.
But, like a slowly rising tide, it *will* change. It has to.

Scott
