John This may be related to the steroid treatments given to people with spinal cord injuries. I don't have specifics, but I understand that research has show a dramatic reduction in long term paralysis in patients who are given large doses of ani-inflamatory steroid drugs as soon as possible after the injury. Evidently the bodys response to the nerve tissue damage (swelling, etc) was causing even more damage to the nerve tissue. The drugs supress that response.
