I haven't seen anything about TecRec but I have
rescued enough PADI Instructors (and to a lesser
extent NAUI) out of the water to realize this is a bad
move for PADI. PADI is a marketing genius and they
know how to spread diving to the masses. They would
not undertake TecRec unless they thought they could
make a fortune on it. And the only way you can do
that is by trying to get as many people doing it as
possible. Unfortunately, most people don't have the
commitment to make this safe. I think they are going
to be pushing tech diving on people that shouldn't be
doing it.

As far as Nitrox and the safety record for it, Nitrox
is safer than air. There wasn't an increase in
accidents because they promoted a higher PO2 while
diving recreationally and then promoted a 100 foot
depth limit so they wouldn't have any trouble at all
(A very smart idea from a legal standpoint)

You aren't comparing apples to apples. Doing a
decompression an/or a trimix dive to 200+ feet isn't
the same as a vacation diver doing a 100 foot nitrox
dive on a Carribean vacation.

This is a bad idea. If you think it isn't, wait a year
into PADI's program and you will have all the DAN
statistics you want to back that statement up.
