    Hi Keith:
The main reason is when diving thru any restriction or entanglement,
even fishing line in your local lake, you want those valves as close to you
or your buddy as possible. If you get stuck and your buddy is ahead of you
and the tanks are inverted and your primary rolls off, how's he going to
reach them?
Another is simple economy. If I pay 700 bucks plus for a pair of doubles
and manifold, why would I mount them in a position where they are almost
gauranteed to be damaged? to prevent that when inverted, you have to put
some sort of cage over the manifold and now you have another entanglement
hazard that you can't get to. the"fix" requires another "fix" which requires
another "fix" and on and on.
the solution is K.I.S.S. as demonstrated by DIR.
    BTW- Cool Website
    Regards
    Brock
