Scott, Your information is out of date. US Patents used to be for 17 years from the date of issue, but that was changed to 20 years from date of filing a couple of years ago. My patent 5,832,440 issued Nov 3, 1998 is good for 20 years from the filing date of Nov 6, 1997. Check with a good patent lawyer.
