Jim and list, Agree with you 100% Jim. My kids grew up with guns in the house and were both shooting by age 5. Any time they wanted to see and/or hold a gun they were allowed to and as a result they respect firearms, handle them safely and realize the role they have played in getting this country free and keeping it free - and they vote accordingly. To the gentleman from the U.K., if you will recall, it was the oppression of England that caused the colonist to rise up in rebellion. And to all, the reason we have a 2nd Amendment to the Constitution is not to protect American's right to go duck hunting but to protect us from another oppressive government. Of course Bill C. was a hunter and he believes in hunter's rights, honest, he wouldn't lie, would he???? (I never had sex with that woman......) Sorry Bill, wrong again! But to get this back on diving, if you have enough whiskers on your chin to remember the last time OSHA got involved with the dive industry. I was actively teaching back then and it threatened to end diving instruction. The only thing that saved it is that the dive industry is so unprofitable that it can't afford to have instructors that are real employees of a shop. Instead almost every shop out there has instructors that they pay X $ per student per class and treats them as independent contractors. They aren't really independent contractors in most cases, according to IRS rules, but it hasn't been challenged yet by IRS so the dive shop can tell OSHA "I don't have any employees teaching diving, all the instructors I use are self employed independent contractors." OSHA only has jurisdiction over employees (someone with whom the shop/employer has a W-2 relationship) not over independent contractors (someone with whom the shop/employer has a 1099-MISC relationship). This thread was covered in great detail about 18 months ago as the result of a dive instruction operation petitioning OSHA for an exemption to the OSHA rule prohibiting the breathing of anything other than air (which includes nitrox other than EAN21) when teaching diving unless all kinds of conditions were met. As I recall you had to have multiple tenders on site and a recompression chamber to boot! When you go into the voting booth, think about who want's to make the world "safer" by restricting your freedoms, and what a great job they have already done! And be sure you do go vote - unless of course you your opinions differ from mine in which case it's OK if you don't.
