List, Another true DIR diver elaborated some more the backpacking idea. I'll keep his name, so just trust me, I'm not the author. Yes, there are people making jokes, and I do that too. However, I really like the system and support it as much as I can by simply using it, and showing it to others. It's another approach, and if you ask me, more refreshing than having people ramble and rave without doing deco or cave dives at all. One argument I often hear is that "those people" (DIR divers) forget about having fun, few would even blackmail others, hoping to enhance their position. This is fairly sick. I (and my buddies) dive the system safely AND we have the hell of a lot of fun. Claudia -------- Oh Coco, see what you started:? Remember all of this is relative, however, "Nice Man" is right. PIR, Pack-It-Right:???, never take more than you will need or it will be a liability. The typical "PIR" system should include a back plate and harness of light material, two straps, axe, flint and stone, rope for a snare, perhaps a filter device for water and fishing line with a hook. All these items should have three loops of cave line wrapped around them with a brass or stainless snap swivel to attach then to the two straps on the backpack harness system. All other needs, shelter, food, etc can be derived from the PIR equipment you have brought. The only thing else that is required is a PIR email list to scilicet unwanted comments about backpacking with "SHOES":))- oh and recompressing at 14,000 feet without a timing device or altimeter and using an uncertified backpacker buddy's on the fly recompressing calculations:}}} Remember, don't listen to shoes and don't backpack with shoes, they will get you hurt:{{{ --- Please amend the PIR response to read..,Flint and Steal, I have used Flint and Stone before but you have to understand that the stone must have a high content of ferrous material:>> If you use stone, you will be regarded as a senior member of the PIR team. However, you must lose that stupid backpack. We have done many trips with the PIR harness and perfected the system. We liken the backpack to the Strokes use of recreational BC. We do not want you to be considered a "Shoe" do we? You are not allowed to use independent thinking at the VVBCBP "Vail Valley Beaver Creek Backpacker" project:>>> -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
