Ben:

The dive shop's reasons in their own mind are probably 1 & 3. They don't
know much about argon, how or where to get it or how to plumb it in to their
system and don't want to find out. They probably also think they wouldn't
make much money if they did it.

Another good reason not to do this is that you must modify the external
plumbing on the booster. Most dive shop air boosters are setup in
"boot-strap" configuration. This means that the gas pumped is also the gas
used to drive the booster. Of course, you wouldn't want to use the argon to
drive the booster, so you would need to reconfigure the machine. Then, you
use air to drive the booster, while you pump the argon. It's not a big deal
for someone who understands how the boosters are plumbed and what all the
external components are for, but is quite a daunting task to those that are
unfamiliar and don't have the parts.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,
C. Randy Bohrer

My local dive shop has a booster pump. They won't do Argon fills. Is this
because
1) they're too lazy to get a tank of Argon (which I'd do for them) or
2) you have to do some eloborate "thing" to the booster pump to boost Argon
and then go back to boosting with Air, Oxy, etc or
3) there's no fucking profit margin on Argon or
4) I'm such a stroke that I couldn't possibly understand the answer to this
and I should go back to playing with lego's when not pissing in my dry suit.
