Dear List, I would just like to share this. I started using twin tanks a few years ago. Since did cave and trimix training. Twin independents was the order of the day, with left and right poseidon regs. I have jetstreams, triton and cyclons. Short hose over the left shoulder and long hose bungied to the tank on the right, up under the arm, right angle and clipped of to a neck strap. No trouble to change regs every 20 bar (=300 psi for those funny people over there). All the left hoses exited the reg on the left side and all the right hoses exited the reg on the right side. Smooth set up. Not to mention the canister light on the back of the tanks!! ENTER DIR. Then I took off the right angle, and routed the long hose DIR. Now both the regs are clipped to the neck strap, and I am trying to swap regs every 20 bar. The canister light is now on my right hip (DIR). So picture this: I am in a cave holding a reel, goodman handle, tying off, and swapping regs. At one stage, I end up with the light cord tangled between the two poseidon regs. Well my buddy (Claire) does not know if I am in trouble or what the hell is going on. I'm also diving with a couple of DIR guys, and seeing how slick there rig is, I gotta do something. You see this all happened because I took the right angle off the long hose and re-routed it. I did not have all this trouble before!! So what next? Well I came away from that cave diving trip. Spent some money..............more. Bought two apeks Tx 100 second stages for my Poseidon first stages. Oh yes, and two isolation manifolds for my twin 55 and twin 100 Fabers. Got the tanks hydro'ed again. O2 cleaned the valves and manifolds. Went home to set it all up. Of course I still new better. Did the DIR reg configuration,.........EXCEPT. Put a long inflator hose on and took it from the right hand side of the right post. Put an ocky length (90cm = 36") hose on the left post on the left / outside and curved them across the wing. You see that meant that that all three hoses came out the same side. I knew better. Stream lined! Then I looked at the kinks in the hoses. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm! Put the shorter inflater on the inside of the (R) post. Put the shorter reg hose on the inside of the (L) post. They lift very slightly. Then the other two hoses on the outside sit down. IT JUST WORKS. Single SPG. Took it back to the dive shop and tried to convert a few others. I tried to DIW, but I ended DIR!! Thank you for reading all this. The point is, that people like Manos and I are somewhat isolated and are working through this thing. I am the only diver in this small city of mine (DARWIN) which has gone DIR. It all makes sense. Thanks for reading this, I hope you had a laugh. Jeff the Darwinian. A little more DIR now!! -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
