Steve, Not knowing Eric, I don't think he wanted to discourage anyone. There are some people on the list who want to kinda belong to a group rather than doing it right for themselves and their buddies somewhere in the woods where nobody can see it. (A hint is all the lurkers that you get to know around you...) Competition has hardly anything to do with the right attitude for a normal "tech"diver (I wish there was another expression for that), that just wants to improve his/her diving, not having the goal to set world records. There you find competition of some sort, and that is a place where I don't mind it to be. But this goes far beyond any planning and logistics *we* (the pedestrians :-))) can overlook. The best is to stay away form saying: "I dive DIR and nobody else does it here", but to say: "I try to do it right and encourage everybody around me, get them interested, help them when they struggle at first, ask the right people for advice and be a better diver today than yesterday." Safe diving, Claudia > I dive with Rob a lot! He and I are in the process of switching over to > DIR. Yes, he just bought a drysuit.
