If you had to constantly explain over and over again what you do and why you
do it, you would be pissed off too. I have met ultimate strokes who fit
George's description to a 'T'. Fat, out of shape and more belligerent than
the III himself. What do they offer to diving? NOTHING! Get this through
your thick skulls... George has said it, and I am sure will have to keep
saying it for all the STROKES out there "he is not part of the industry!" If
you are lost already start over again. Do you STROKES even know what the
"DIVE" industry is! Honestly it is a bunch of mom and pop operations that
pop up who really don't have a clue about running a true business. I am not
attacking individuals here, we all have a story! But go to DEMA... what do
you see? A bunch of middle aged drunk egos who try to make a living out of
their Hobby. Some are successful, most are not. What does that mean...
nothing, except tomorrow there will be a place for us to buy gear. Arm
people with a little information and they feel God like. Someone comes along
like George and stirs up the pot and everyone gets offended. To JJ and
GUE... More power to you, and all of my business will now go to you! All the
people I come in contact with will hear the name GUE, not PADI, NAUI, or
heaven forbid, IANTD or TDI. The ones that need to grow up are the ones
still using jerry jugs as bc's!

I have heard of a new campaign in the diving community, called Stop
Treys
Rudeness, Orrels Kindness Everytime or STROKE as it has been
abbreviated,
apparently you can show your support for this campaign by wearing a
T-
	Shirt available from Dive Girl.

Steve, I believe that people have slightly got the wrong end of the
stick
with you, I dont see you slating peoples diving, just their
communication
techniques, however this is Techdiver and not the Oxford debating
society...
I dont know if you are a parent, but if my son had wandered into the
middle
of the road and was about to be knocked down, I wouldn't be standing
at the
roadside trying to politely reason with him and point out his
potential
folly, I would be screaming my lungs out and making every effort to
grab
him and stop him from being killed. Now imagine you find out the
reason
that little Johnny was in the middle of the road was because the
crossing
patrol officer (or lollipop lady if you are in England) had said it
was OK
to cross, you probably wouldn't be too happy with that person
either. You
probably wouldn't be too impressed if they told you it was OK
because
little Johnny had been knocked down quite a few times recently and
had now
built up a tolerance to being knocked down and that they (crossing
patrol)
had been knocked down by a lorry a few years ago and survived so it
must be
OK. I guess you wouldn't be too polite either.

I know a lot of people do get put off something if it is rammed down
their
throat (religion being one that springs to mind) however people are
dying
doing something which, for most, is a hobby and should be enjoyable.
Life
is precious, I think a lot of people forget that until it is taken
from
someone close to them. After trying most DIR methods (I am still
getting
there) they work, the only arguments against DIR configuration seem
to be
from people trying to justify using incorrect gear they had
previously
bought. No wonder they are annoyed, scuba gear is expensive and to
have
bought all the wrong stuff on the advice of someone who should have
known
better, but didn't, only to find out its useless is pretty galling
(I know
this from experience) but is hardly justification for continuing
wrong
	practices.

Ultimately one must take responsibilty for ones own actions and the
gear
one choses to dive and the effect your actions may have on those
with whom
you share your life. That does come down to personal preference,
however
what angers me is that those we look to as role models set pretty
poor
examples a lot of the time and spread dangerous views which are
taken as
being gospel by the masses due to their being no one to counter
their weak
ideas. I wholeheartedly support the efforts of JJ, GI, GUE and WKPP
in
	trying to remidy this.

	Just my two penny worth

	Howard
