Hi all Underwater Fans,
I have been used to exercise my contacts in the dive world, and
being an ex-member of this list (had to shut down due to work
commitments), I thought that there's no better place to start
than TECHDIVER. If anybody has any ideas about other lists
that would welcome this message (SCUBA-L??), please feel free
to forward the message.
But being an ex-member, I won't know if the message comes
through to the list - would somebody (listowner?) please let me
know if this gets thru.

AIMS AND SCOPE
The symposium has been arranged to bring together scientific
divers from all over the world and to provide an opportunity
for them to share information on many aspects of underwater
science. Reports of projects where scientific diving
techniques have been used will be welcomed, particularly where
novel techniques have been employed.
TIMING OF SYMPOSIUM
The symposium will take place from 13 to 15 September 1995.
The dates have been selected to immediately precede the
C.M.A.S. General Assembly which will take place in Mauritius
the following week. It is hoped that delegates travelling to
the General Assembly may wish to stop-off in Cape Town for a
few days on their way to Mauritius so that they can include the
symposium in their itinerary.
SYMPOSIUM TOPICS
Any aspect of scientific diving will be considered for
inclusion in the symposium. The two working days of the
symposium will be divided into sessions which will include
Archaeology Marine Biology
Conservation Marine Geology
Medicine Diving Safety
Cave Diving Deep Diving
Mixed Gas Diving Technology
The organisers will attempt to avoid running parallel sessions
if possible.
CALL FOR PAPERS
Members of the scientific diving community and any persons
using scientific diving in their work, are invited to submit
papers for presentation at the symposium. Oral presentations
will be strictly limited to 20 minutes, including question
time. The language of the symposium will be English and no
simultaneous translation services will be available. An
overhead projector, 35mm slide projector and VHS video system
will be provided. Abstracts of not more than 300 words must be
submitted to the Scientific Committee not later than 1 May 1995.
The Scientific Committee will select papers for presentation
at the symposium on the basis of the submitted abstract.
Should the number of papers submitted exceed the time
available, some authors may be offered the possibility of
presenting their results as posters. Abstracts should be
submitted to

upper campus of the University of Cape Town. Situated on the
slopes of Table Mountain, the campus is conveniently situated
and fairly close (by car) to Cape Town's Waterfront and famous
tourist beaches. Weather in September will be mild but evenings
could be cool.
