I had Lasik 8 months ago, its a new procedure where they slice the front of
the lens back and laser the bit underneath. They then fold the lens back
over and it heals up very quickly. The op took about 30 mins and I walked
home without any problems 30 mins later. The post op advice was to use eye
drops /antibiotics for a few weeks and to stay out of the water for 1
month. After that I went on a live aboard for 5 days doing the usual 4 dives
a day. I have had zero problems since the op and am very happy with it.
Before the op I was -5 in both eyes.

I've only done 5 trimix dives so can't comment on that, except to say that I
talked this through with the optician and he said it would not be a problem.

I personally know 3 other divers who have had this operation and they have
reported zero problems.

Jerry

In some rare cases, vision problems are not correctable with a lens. I
don't know if this is the case for Simon or not. I have a very bad
astigmatism in my left eye (which was caused by the scleral buckle I had to
get when I got a detached retina several years ago), and my ophthalmologist
has been unable to give me a contact that both (a) fits properly and (b)
gives me correct vision. Glasses are not an option because one eye is very
nearsighted and the other one is not nearsighted at all. Eventually, I
would like to have surgery for it, so I for one would be interested in
knowing if it's okay or not.
