Dear Simon, I am not am opthalmogist. I have not read definative articles. But the only reasons I do not have the operation done are: Risk of loss of close up definition. Chance of a second operation. My close up vision is better than average for my age (43). I rely on close up vision. ie .022x .028 inch slots, and archwires .016 to .021 x .025 inches. I wear a prescription mask in situations with excellent viz. If your surgeon has glasses, ask him why he did not have it done.
