From what I've experimented with when trying to find bouyancy with a wet suit is to raise the elbow as high as possible bend the arm andinflate the elbow, as you are correctly waited you should need very little lift. I tryed this in the red sea when the US DM told me about it and I didn't beleive it. but what the DIR approach is I don't know, and this wouldn't work in any pentration dives.
