Should be the same as a reg as far as gas usage , but your next move is to fix your buddy's problem and then turn your own valve back on if it is still there. By the way, when things like this happen and you are on a stage bottle , go to your backgas - you do not want to run out on your stage while dealing with a problem and then have the whole thing start all over. I had a situation like this while diving with Exley and another guy. Exley went throgh a restriction at 300 feet, and then I went. Exley immmediately scootered over to a lead he saw on the left, about 40 feet away, I turned and framed the restiction for the next guy with my light, but instead of him coming thrugh, his scooter came through by itself. I batted it away from me and the silt, grabbed the mainline, went to my backup , got neutral and had my long hose ready when the guy came thougth not breathing. I grabbed his right arm asnd held him tight at alrms lenght,and hit him with the reg - he took a couple of breaths, and then we sorted out the probem. Shit in the stage reg . That could have been a huge clusterfuck , but it only delayed us about one minute. Exley retreived the scooter and we were off on our way. The other thing that this guy did that was screwed up was that he had all of his stage regs over his neck and also had his other two regs sprayed eveywhere - he could not find one that was turned on fast enough.
