The story that is on the accident report and also that Bowden talks about is that their descent lines were about 25' apart and therefore were both diving solo, just coincidently in the same cave since the visibility was poor. Bowden actually made it about 20' deeper than Sheck did, so that tells you how much they were in sight of each other. Don -----Original Message----- From: Michael J. Regarding the Zacaton dive in 1994, it is my understanding that Exley and Bowden were within sight of each other for most of the descent. At 925 feet, Bowden could no longer see Sheck who was below him, and began his ascent solo. Exley's body surfaced three days later.
