Greetings Thomas, I am sure that some of the other members could explain the physics better. Here is my understanding. After a dive, your body can be likened to a full champagne bottle. The different tissues are contain excess dissolved gas, the degree of which depends on the effectiveness of your decompression. Exercise creates turbulence in the blood vessels, which is like "shaking the bottle," and this can promote bubble formation. The risk factors vary with the dive, your bottom gas, decompression technique, your off gassing physiology and the surface interval. So-- don't shake the bottle when it's still full of gas.
