I don't know if Craig Campbell reads this group. I hope so because I am relucatnat to post this to rec.scuba craig@ca*.ca*.nc*.co* (Craig Campbell) wrote: > Just to demonstrate the NO agency has the corner on foolish divers, > I know of a NEW NAUI OWI student, freshly certified, who took his > girlfriend, and friend, with rental equipment and 60ft^3 tanks on > a dive to ~160 ft. I was just musing this over in my mind and I reckon that, depending on air consumption rates, a 60cuft cylinder would last between 10 and 20 mins on a dive to this depth. Given that we are talking about a novice and 2 non-divers (by implication) I would tend to think their consumption rates would be quite high. Descent and ascent alone would account for at least 6 mins, and I would be surprised if they did it that quickly. The NDL is something like 5 or 6 mins (I'm guessing because I don't have tables in front of me) so they were running a tight schedule. Lucky or not, I think this is quite an impressive profile for a novice to complete safely. Please note that I don't condone the dive in any way. Flame away. Alan
