Do you remember when you bought your first air computer how much
dive time you gained vs your diving tables. ? We are in a similar
position now.
It seams that although bottom timers ( along a pre plan computer
software )
work fine with cave divers it simply waisting a lot of dive time on
dives in
open sea specially when exploring new areas  where depth varies every
minute.

( i still cannot figure it out how can you explore the unknown
  with a bottom timer, being most of the time much higher than your max
depth
   its a rocky multi level rock side here in the Greek Island of
Cyprus).

 Thinking of purchasing a multi-gas underwater computer , i wanna her
some advice , brand , models  from people with  experience using them
