This seems to me an issue that = transcends the borders and is a potentially devastating piece of = legislation to divers taken as a whole. While I know that we all enjoy a good flame war now and again :-) it = seems to me that this issue should unite all divers if not only for a = moment in time. Steve Yorrmak and Peter Hess are fighting the battle on the legal front = and the outcome of this will effect everyone of us. Can anyone on this = list truthfully say that they believe that once the Govt. ( Canadian or = otherwise ) get's there foot in the door they will be happy with just a = mere toe hold??? Accordingly, the Canadian Govt. is using taxpayer dollars to fight a = legal battle against the very taxpayers footing the bill. While Steve, = Peter and Gary Gentile have financed the battle to date. Of course any public outcry will be useful, but in the final analysis it = will come down to a legal battle that must be fought in the courtrooms. = This cost money, the Govt. has it ( even though it is technically the = taxpayer's money ), the Govt. is organized and we are not united. To that end, I believe that this issue is important enough to challenge = this group to unite together, I am therefore willing to put up $5,000 of = my own money to be matched dollar for dollar against any contributions = made towards this effort from members of this list. Much like the victory against the U.S. Govt. in the MONITOR battle, it's = us against them. If we loose this one you can bet your life that sooner = or later the Govt. will expand and regulate all our underwater = activities.
