As a long-time but now reformed deep diver, once addicted to Nitrogen, I'd like to relate an experience we have all had: Fun in the dental chair with Nitrous! I had some caps done today and as I sat in the chair grooving on some John Martyn tunes while breathing in the nitrous oxide, I found myself thinking about diving and I realized how similar the experiences are. I even had a little "wah-wah" going as the dentist upped the dose while he ground my front teeth off. I imagined dealing with a crisis underwater under such mental conditions and decided that, while I had a pretty good illusion of focus going, an illusion was all it was. Getting up from the chair after three hours helped to bring that home. I recovered quickly, but those first seconds were a little loose. You simply cannot function optimally while so impaired, so all you remaining druggies, it's time to kick the habit. If you still need the buzz, ask your dental hygienist to dose you up with a little Nitrous and get a little kick out of the habit that way--those of you who see a dentist. The worst that can happen is that she smacks you when your hands wander. Under water, the worst is dead. Later, JoeL -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
