After following the discussion on blown tank valves on techdiver, I thought of letting You know how this problem was dealt with here in Finland Concerning the mis-screwn valves (hmm..), we had some similar incidents here in Finland a few years back. Here the case was mostly cone thread valves screwn into a cylinder thread tank neck. At that time the state agency responsible for pressure proofing supervision recommended that both the neck of the tank and the valve should bear markings of the thread. The diving industry quickly (and I think voluntarily) accepted this procedure. Since, You couldn't get Your tanks filled or pressure proofed (every 5 yrs. in here) if they didn't have the thread engraved both to tank neck and valve. The pressure proofing firms also inspect the threads and make the markings if needed. After that, no more blown valves. Good diving to You all for 1995, Y. T., Juha
