I have not seen the latest study but this chap also published one in the =
British Medical Journal of March 1997.
In the March `97 study 88 divers were also examined (same divers =
probably). To conclude anything from such a tiny population is IMHO an =
assumption not based on adequate scientific data.

Another study in 1991 found brain lesions in 34% of `professional =
divers`examined. This same study also discovered lesions in 42% of the =
control subjects (who had never dived)!

`Should we all be rushing out to get ourselves tested for PFO`s? The =
answer is no. The problem with MRI studies of divers is that they =
invariably use test groups that are too small from which to draw firm =
conclusions. And since brain lesions are present in both divers and =
non-divers, any link between diving and brain lesions is speculative`
                                                                         =
Dive July 1999, Diving Dementia, =
Tony Day

On the other hand if this type of scare mongering worries you then by =
all means get yourself checked for a PFO. It`s your money!
