George you asked why. My reason is simple. The dive data recorder provides very good statistical and educational data. The real time tracking of the dive is of great value for illustrations of dives when teaching. I will put a unit on a new student so i can have a positive record of gas consumption, It also lets us review ascent rates, descent rates, where a diver has high gas consumption and low gas consumption. It's a tool that allows for invisible data recording. Granted, some of the early units had some problems, but those problems are old and solved. Just as you were the one who pushed forward the testing of light and scooter batteries, I have added the battery check of this unit too as part of SOP.
