The clip should he attached to the long hose via a break away, such as an
O-ring.
Here was an email I sent out about this on Thu 25/02/99 08:02:

Unscrew the pressure gauge from the first stage and fold an O-ring through
the eye of the swivel bolt snap. In doing this you have created two loops
of O-ring. Pass the pressure gauge hose through the two O-ring loops and
slide down to the end of the hose near the gauge. Reconnect hose to first
stage. Voila. A breakaway without the use of a zip tie. This should also
keep Jim Cobb happy as he rightly hates zip ties!

BTW, the section of the O-ring needs to be appropriate to break with the
right amount of force, but not flimsy enough to break when not desired. I
found a neck O-ring to be too strong and bought some thinner O-rings of
1/16" section but the same diameter (sorry, I can't recall the reference for
these).

Note that this method can be used to secure break away regulator clips also.

And another on Fri 26/02/99 08:57:

IMHO, the size of the O-ring should be such that it grips the hose tightly
and should not slide along the hose of its own volition. However, it
remains possible to manually slide the bolt snap to adjust its position on
the hose and, as stated before, should be of 1/16" section so that it can be
broken when this is necessary.

I position the clip a little way off the primary second stage, probably
6-9". The rationale for the it not sliding of its own volition is that you
don't want to be hunting down the clip when you want to clip off a long
hose, it must be there in the same place you positioned it. Also, having
the clip not move has two merits:

*	This places tension on the hose all the way from the first stage to
clip and keeps things neat and tidy.

*	The length from the clip to second stage is sufficiently long for me
or another diver to breath from it without unclipping or breaking the
O-ring.

Subject:	Hello and my 2 cents

Hello,

First let me introduce myself. I have been lurking on the list for over a
year now, I currently dive in the Puget sound and BC exclusively. I am a
IANTD basic Nitrox diver (I know, I know, I'm going to get Andrew G. to
train me soon) but for right now I dive with a GUE certified trimix/Full
Cave/Rebreather diver as support, and for recreational dives. My question
thought is this. When diving a Halcyon RB DIR the Long hose is clipped
off to the right shoulder D-ring. The bolt snap is attached to the hose
with a cable tie, right? Well, last week on a Recreational dive, my buddy
(with the Halcyon) and I decide to do some OOA drills, and noticed that the
amount of time it takes to unclip and pass the long hose to the OOA diver
is pretty long compared to DIR open circuit. Now I realize that the Cable
tie is used because it can be broken, but what about using the o-ring
method to attach the bolt snap. Should be plenty strong normally, but much
easier to break when you need to pass the long hose to an OOA diver.

Any thoughts, Flames, etc would be greatly appreciated.
