I think that may have been a 'Whillans' harness. A lot more comfortable, and easier to use would be one of a dozen one piece whole body mountaineering harnesses. Many large climbing type shops list them in their catalogues. A thought I had on this would be (although a little drastic) to build a full harness set of straps into a dry suit. My brother uses as a set of working overalls a german army issue tank drivers suit - converts from all-in-one to great-coat with two zips, can be stripped in the event of napalm splashes with two toggled zips and comes with tapes sown in to function as an emergency stretcher or air lift suit (or body-bag). De riguer for cave diving, by the sound of it, eh Neal? ;-) Jason.
