Cam, for me, diving open water, bottom timer and compass go on left arm. Right arm is extended with light, anchor line, or reel. Left arm is across body handling buoyancy, so is in the correct position to read these instruments anyway. Also, in the dark, light is in right hand and easy to shine on guages. If instruments are on right arm you need to swap hands with the light to illuminate them. If I carry a backup BT it goes on right arm. If your strap won't go over drysuit you need to get a new strap.
