Such is normally reserved for SHOUTING! "DIR" = "Doing It Right", which is a diving approach evolved from the "Hogarthian" system. While the Hogarthian approach dealt primarily with equipment issues, DIR is a total system, and in its complete interpretation includes diver fitness and dive methodologies as well as equipment selection and configuration. DIR has been applied by divers world wide. Its first use in very "serious" diving was by the Woodville Karst Plain Project (WKPP). More recently, a DIR team completed an exploration of the wreck of the Brittanic. While these projects involve very advanced technical exposures, DIR is equally well suited for recreational diving. Proponents of the system point out that one can begin diving DIR at the recreational level, making the transition to technical diving easier as the basic equipment configuration and dive philosophy are unchanged. There are at present two equipment manufacturers and one (relatively new) training agency targeting the DIR system.
