"<<*** Shot line diving is not a new technique , Steve Bielenda can tell you storys about how they wreck dove like this in the fiftys . This is where the dive boat stays "free" and " live" and the divers jump off and swim down to the wreck with only a guide line and no rope to pull your self down. Its a challanging type of diving you must have good boyancy control and swimming ability or you can hurt your ears on the way down .>> " I'd never heard it called this but this is a common technique off North Florida and Georgia. The commercial spearfishermen all dive this way. It beats throwing the anchor out and pulling it back in. We just throw a marker over and follow the line down to the ledge or wreck. If you allow the current to get you off the line in bad vis you probably won't see the structure you're trying to dive. Nothing worse than a 130 foot sand dive. regards George -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
