Well, sort of. A set of steel 60's rigged in DIR fashion provide a level of
redundancy which can never happen with a single 120 with Y-valve or an 80
with a pony. But if you are really doing "rec" diving, this level of
complexity is not needed.

If you are doing "rec" dives in cold, poor vis at the deep end of "rec"
limits perhaps you should reevaluate what, exactly, kind of diving you are
doing. Perhaps you are a "tech" diver and don't know it, thus should
consider a true redundant system.

I really don't think that there is a fixed delineation between "tech" and
"rec". If you are doing dives in conditions which raise the anxiety level
and create the possibility that you may get in trouble from such conditions,
I don't think that the 130' rule is sufficient.

For example a 130' bounce dive in gin-clear, current free conditions with a
competent buddy off of a good boat is certainly "rec". But a 80' dive in
5ft. vis, 40F water and a strong current on a fishline enshrouded wreck
certainly is *not* a "rec" dive and should not be done with rec equipment if
you are a sane person. It is this kind of diving which is pushing rec divers
to do stuff like using pony's.
