Please try to explain how(why) you would want a long hose when diving
sidemount configuration....

I dive sidemount exclusively and can see no reason to put a five foot hose
on either tank. In sidemount you don't share air vis long hose, you simply
hand off a tank. and exit independently.

I'm guessing that what you are calling sidemounts are really stage bottles
hooked to your hips. You still have your main gas supply on your back.
