Flicking through this month's National Geographic there was an article on Mallory & Irvine's ill-fated expedition to Everest, and an old photograph of them wearing double O2 bottles on their backs. I've climbed a lot in the past but with limited altitude experience, but I was wondering if any climbers had ever experimented with rebreathers for alititude. Altitude sickness has killed or injured an awful lot of people and O2 supplies severely limits what a team can do above 20000ft. With today's technology, surely a lightweight rebreather could be a reality? How long would a rebreather extend a small O2 bottle in this situation. Often wondered this but never thought of asking until I saw that photograph. Has this been thought of before? -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
